Club HistoryFounded in 1965 by a small band of Bull Terrier lovers, our club's aim, then as now, was to promote the breed's welfare and to educate the public at large about its unique and appealing qualities. Membership has since grown to well over a hundred households. And though most of us live in the Chicagoland area, our roster also includes residents of Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Hawaii, and Japan. Originally
the club's primary efforts centered around dog shows, but our focus soon
expanded into the totality of BT ownership, that is:
The majority of our current members neither show nor breed but simply count one or several "Bullies" as cherished family pets. The club does hold an annual Show Weekend in mid-June. It is still the centerpiece of our calendar year, attracting exhibitors from all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Surprisingly, this event has also proved popular with our pet owners as an opportunity to view "Beautiful Bulls" in tough, suspenseful competition for top honors. and a chance to socialize at our always well-attended post-show party. However, in addition to the show, club activities include regular meetings, at which pertinent breed issues are discussed, educational seminars, an annual Holiday Party, and "Bullie Olympics," our popular early-fall picnic, featuring fun and games for both Bulls and the people who transport them to the festivities. The club also publishes a newsletter that contains worthwhile articles, information on up-coming events, and helpful hints on many topics related to Bull Terriers. Membership is open to anyone who loves the breed, whether they own a BT or not, and dues provide assistance in our many philanthropic and social service projects, such as rescue and education. If you'd like to join us, please contact our Secretary, Gigi Edmonds, at y.chevy@comcast.net for an application. |
